Jesus Will Not Return Until... | 2 Thessalonians | 2:1-3
• Series: 2 Thessalonians
This sermon is part of our series walking through the book of 2 Thessalonians. As we look at the chaos in the world around us, we may be reminded of the first century Christians in Thessolonika who faced constant persecution and eagerly awaited Jesus’ return. We hope to dive into what 2 Thessalonians teach us about Jesus’ return and how are we to live in light of that hope. In 2 Thessalonians 2, Paul addresses the concerns of early Christians about the return of Jesus, providing clear guidance to help us understand this significant event. He clarifies that Jesus' return and the gathering of believers are a single event, occurring simultaneously on the Day of the Lord. This teaching counters the popular belief of a secret rapture followed by Jesus' return. Paul supports this by referring to 'that day' in the singular and explaining that the day of relief for Christians is the same day of vengeance for unbelievers. Paul outlines two key signs that must occur before Jesus' return: a significant apostasy within the church and the revelation of the Man of Lawlessness, also known as the Antichrist. He advises believers to stay calm and focused, avoiding sensational claims and false teachings. By understanding these teachings, we can live with expectation and peace, grounded in the truth of God's Word.
